Students apathetic about final debate

… Jake Houghton, a junior in philosophy, said he’s already made up his mind who to vote for: nobody. He is involved in Vote for Nobody, a student group urging community involvement, direct democracy and most specifically, boycotting the presidential election.

“Vote for Nobody. Nobody will keep election promises … If Nobody is elected, things will be better for everyone,” reads the group’s pamphlets.

“Our system is built in a way that consecrates power for the few,” Houghton said. “It’s a real possibility for everyone to be directly involved … We have a lot of power that we don’t think we do.”

Although he has already decided to boycott the vote, Houghton said he wanted to see how the candidates presented themselves to the country. He also watched the domestic policy debate a few weeks ago.

“It was exhausting watching the first one,” he said. “Just sitting there and knowing they’re telling lies to the public just to get elected.” …
